The Qurbani of our Prophet Muhammad PBUH
This is the Qurbani we still practise today, every Eid-ul-Adha and it is important for us to make our intentions sincere and to keep in mind the rich history behind Qurbani. Our heritage should be valuable to us, as shown by the Prophet PBUH. The family of Prophet Ibrahim AS is of particular importance in our history, as we learn every year at Hajj when we commemorate their actions.
The Messenger of Allah PBUH even said, “I am the son of two sacrificed people” (Hakim), referring to the fact that both his father Abdullah and his ancestor Prophet Isma’il AS were almost sacrificed for Allah’s sake, emphasising his connection with Prophet Isma’il AS.
Obedience and Submission
Therefore, Qurbani for Muslims is a lesson in obedience and submission. We must obey Allah’s SWT command as commanded in the Qur’an and Sunnah. We must perform the tasks He has ordained compulsory (Fard) on all Muslims such as praying salah, fasting, paying Zakat and embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage.
“May Allah SWT enable us to perform the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim RA, Ameen.”
Due to the firm faith of both father and son, Prophet Isma’il AS was replaced by a ram and his life was spared by Allah SWT. In this story, we remember that Eid ul-Adha is not just a celebration, but the remembrance of one of the greatest sacrifices in history.
Giving Qurbani
As we remember the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s AS sacrifice every year, and we remember the obedience, devotion, and submission that he showed on that fateful day on a mountain top of Arafat – we contemplate on the importance of the celebration of Qurbani, and what we must do to honour it.
