At the heart of a Muslim community is a community hub, known as the Mosque. Mosques are as old as Islam itself; they are the beating heart of our community and stand graciously amongst the City landscape.
The greatest source of Sadaqah Jariyah is to build a Mosque. One of the first things that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did when he entered Madinah, was to build a Mosque – Masjid Quba. Its rewards come with infinite blessings in this world and the hereafter.
The Mosque is more than simply a place of worship. It is a precious sanctuary that provides a place for individual enlightenment, education and moral guidance. Inside the walls of a Mosque is where we teach our children about the Qur’an, where we come to honour and worship Allah ﷻ and where we can come together for special occasions in the community, such as holidays, weddings and funerals.
The reward for building a Mosque is everlasting – for every prayer said inside a Mosque you’ve helped build, Allah ﷻ will reward you in Jannah. The community in which you build a Mosque, also receives its benefits and as long as people are benefiting from the Mosque you’ve helped build then you will continue to receive rewards from Allah ﷻ even in the Hereafter.
The Prophet ﷺ said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuing charity), knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him.” [Muslim]
We seek to revive the forgotten traditions and functionality of a Mosque as an institution for gathering to gain knowledge, share wisdom, contemplate, challenge thinking, interact with spirituality and celebrate as a community – in essence, building a Prophetic community for future generations.
